New Bottom Paint and Wax
New Bottom Paint and Wax

Hello to all our subscribers, it has been a long time. This is just a short post to talk about the sailing adventure which we are about to set off on June 20.

Afterglow will be leading a kind of sailing rally up to Desolation Sound. The trip is planned as a hybrid flotilla and series of weekend rendezvous at the destinations shown on the map below:

In preparation for the trip, we did some significant engine maintenance. Besides bottom paint, propeller maintenance, changing the engine oil and sail drive gear oil, we replaced the exhaust elbow, raw water pump, and cleaned the heat exchanger. We also had some zippers replaced in our topside enclosure. PLUS! We got lovely new cockpit cushions, which we are sure you will see in a near-future post.

Our first destination will be Port Townsend, a town we really enjoy. We'll spend a week cruising the San Juan Islands, then rendezvous at Sucia Island, explore the Canadian Gulf Islands and meet up again at Montague Harbor. Nanaimo is our next rendezvous, and then we are off to explore the Jervis Inlet, Squirrel Cove, and the Octopus Islands which will be about as far north as we go.

Headed back South we will rendezvous at Pender Harbor, Vancouver, BC, Blaine, USA, then on to a club cruise at the John Wayne Marina in Sequim (where the Dungeness crabs come from.)

Norma has started provisioning the boat with lots of canned peanuts, oysters, crackers, olives, cheese, etc. for our happy hours and pastas, meats, eggs, soups and salad stuff for our potlucks. Going with a group is always fun and provides a safety and social network for all. We will post again soon.
